Graduate Spotlight: Erin

Current Employment: Drake University

Why did you participate in Project IOWA’s Cultivating Careers program? I had been unemployed for 4.5 months after a heartbreaking layoff. My unemployment had ended. I was looking for a small group and/or 1:1 support for specific aspects of gaining a new career.

Describe your experience with Project IOWA staff and working your way through the program. The Project IOWA Staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and caring. I looked forward to the meeting when class was in session. The information was insightful, applicable and timely. My cohort was a great group; generous in their support and in sharing their journey.

Did you find your purpose by working with Project Iowa staff? Explain. I don't know that purpose is the right word. My time with Project IOWA helped me sharpen my focus on what I really wanted out of my next job, place of employment, manager, etc. This time also helped build confidence as it helped me see how far I had already come and that much of what I still needed to do was some fine tuning here and there.

What are you doing differently now because you went through Cultivating Careers? One of the biggest things I'm doing is being more intentional about how I want to feel on a given day. And even if I stray from that, being aware enough to return to where I want to be.

Why does Project IOWA matter? Project IOWA matters because they truly care. The Staff are all cheering for your success. Project IOWA is filling much-needed gaps, providing personalized support for employment and tools for lifelong well-being.
